East Looe and West Looe are joined by a seven arch Victorian bridge. I am in the car-park upstream of the bridge on the west side. There is a long expanse of car park running away from me beside the river. Not far from the bridge is a Chandler's and in a nearby yard I see a man washing a car. I'll start here.

"Morning, can you help me? I'm looking for the yard where Compton Castle was moored. "

"Comp' on? Your'e going back a bit. No yard now. It's all gone. "

He pointed along the riverbank .

"See those pink trees, go there an' you'll see road goes into the river-----

----An' a tin hut kind of building behind. That was the place.”
