Harry Wood and his brother-in-law Sam Baume were both aboard the Compton Castle, preparing the boat for a private function to take place this evening of the 9th November, 1967. Harry's wife was busy preparing food. Sam's wife Alice was at home. She had not been feeling well.
It is said buildings can have an aura. So can boats. Compton Castle always seemed to welcome you. Once aboard Harry often used to say, "she's 'appy to see us, can't you feel it?".
That atmosphere suddenly evaporated as the boat lurched against the quayside. Harry ran up and onto the deck. The estuary was calm. He thought he heard laughter and the boat seemed to shiver.
Then, as the sun beamed through the windows the boat took on a normal feel again. Over the portable came the song ,'Baby now that I've found you I can't let you go.'
" At number one this week,” the voice said, " The Foundations.”
Again from somewhere came the sound of laughter.
" Earthquake?” said Sam.
"Earthquakes don't laugh,” said Harry.
