BBC teams were in Kingsbridge last week to film the Compton Castle for use in the Onedin Line series. So the Compton Castle steams again. She is claimed to be the oldest paddle steamer still operative in the country and is just the job for the TV series on the fortunes of a 19th century shipping line.
From early morning the technicians were busy at work, and staff were busy getting the vessel "ready for sea." Sequences were filmed in the engine room where the stokers were at work.
The next filming will be in May when the Compton Castle will be taken to Dartmouth where a quay has been rigged up to represent the old-time water front of Liverpool, where the story is set .
